The review of these mobile devices was carried out in a virtual hearing held by the Fifth Court of Criminal Investigation of Anti-Corruption of the capital of La Paz, in which Representatives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office participated, of the Police and the detained ex-military personnel.
The devices, which are in the custody of the Departmental Prosecutor’s Office of La Paz, were opened in the presence of their owners in order to search for evidence that could provide proof of the military takeover of Plaza Murillo.
Among the owners of the cell phones are the former Army commander, Juan Jose ZunigaSo like other alleged suspectssuch as: Juan Arnés, Marcelo Javier Zegarra, Juan Mario Paulsen and Franz Ordóñez.
This case dates back to June 26, when Zúñiga led a military operation to take the Murillo plaza.the center of political power in BoliviaWith tanks and heavy weapons, the troops occupied the area where the Executive and Legislative branches are located.
The 23 soldiers accused in this incident are being investigated for the alleged crimes of: attacking the security of the president and other dignitaries of the State, destruction or deterioration of state property and national wealth, misuse of goods and services, terrorism and armed uprising against the security and sovereignty of the State.
