The extension of the Jorge Chavez International Airport (AIJC) will inject US$533 million into the economy this year alone, assured the Minister of Transportation and Communications, Paola Lazarte.
Likewise, the official pointed out that this is a project that will make it possible to close gaps and provide services to citizens, which will also have an effect on the reactivation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“For the construction of this new airport infrastructure, inputs that are purchased in the national territory are being used, boosting the domestic economy,” he said.
INVESTMENT
According to information from the MTC, the expansion and improvement of the Jorge Chavez Airport It is a project whose investment amounts to more than US$2,000 million and includes the construction of the new control tower, the second landing strip and the new passenger terminal.
It is estimated that the work will be completed and operations will begin in 2025. The tower and the second runway are already 100% complete, while the new terminal registers 26% progress.
“By 2025, the new Jorge Chávez Airport terminal will have the capacity to serve 30 million passengers per year, with a constructed area of 210,000 square meters,” said the MTC.
