MADRID, Spain.- The young Cuban baseball player Ronald Elías Terrero left Cuba and is in the Dominican Republic. As reported by sports journalist Francys Romero, he will look for a professional firm, like most of the national baseball prospects who emigrate to that country. In September 2023 he will turn 16 and will be able to apply for free agency.

Terrero, a native of the Isla de la Juventud, was part of the Cuba Team that won the silver medal in the U-15 World Cup held in Mexico last October. With him there are now nine players from this team who have left Cuba.

Romero points out that, although he began to report on the departures of the U-15 World Cup players from November 2022, Terrero was one of the first, since he left the country at the end of 2022.

Currently, the pinero is training in San Pedro de Macorís at the Academy of the renowned Fernando Tatis.

Regarding his abilities, Romero pointed out: “Terrero can run the 60 yards in times like 6.6 seconds and perhaps he will continue to develop his tools. He has a good explosiveness in the swing and can also generate power. He can also play in the outfield.”

After returning to Cuba from the Under 15 World Cup in Mexico, the young man had a great reception in his city.

As reviewed Caribbean Radio“glories of the sport from Pinero, relatives, classmates, coaches and Party authorities, went to the maritime terminal of Nueva Gerona, to receive the young athlete.”

Just a week ago, the departure from Cuba, also to the Dominican Republic, of the Granma native Christian de Jesus Zamorawho will also integrate the aforementioned team.

During the past year, the current migratory crisis that Cuba is going through, the biggest in decades, was reflected in sports with the exodus of more than a hundred athletes.

Last January the Cuban authorities announced who are working on a measure to further control athletes who go out to competitions abroad. This was clearly stated by the president of the Cuban Federation and National Soccer Commissioner, Oliet Rodríguez.

“Within the international regulations, in which the Cuban Federation is attached as a member of the International Amateur Football Federation (FIFA), there is a convention that has been modifying the FIFA statutes and will allow us, as soon as we can implement it, to control better to our athletes anywhere in the world”, Rodríguez announced.

In addition, he indicated that the measure, “which will favor the control of athletes”, will be extended to other sports.
