Exit crimes, vote buying and violation of the secrecy of the vote motivated the arrests carried out yesterday (2) during the first round of the elections.
According to a balance sheet released today (3) by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), 1,378 electoral crimes were recorded during the voting and 352 people were arrested.
According to the electoral legislation, those who were arrested in flagrante delicto by exiting the poll will face a process, which can end with a sentence of six months to one year in prison. The conviction can be converted into rendering of services to the community and the payment of a fine of up to R$ 15.9 thousand.
The attempt to violate the secrecy of the vote can lead to a sentence of up to two years in prison. Buying votes is punishable by imprisonment of up to four years and payment of a fine.
Election day advertising
The Electoral Justice registered 4,872 complaints of electoral propaganda on election day, which is prohibited. Since the beginning of the electoral campaign, on August 16, 37,026 complaints have been received.
The complaints were sent through the Pardal app, a digital tool created in 2014 that allows citizens to report complaints against campaigns. Upon receipt, complaints are sent to the Public Electoral Ministry (MPE). The process may end up in condemnation to pay a fine by the candidate, coalition or party.
