Exile remembers the anniversary of 11J: “The battle for the freedom of Cuba is not over”

MIAMI, United States. — Politicians, leaders of exile organizations and Cuban activists met this Monday at the different events held in Miami on the occasion of the first anniversary of the peaceful anti-government protests of the July 11, 2021 (J11).

“Shamefully, the struggle of the Cuban people has not been a priority for the Biden Administration. Worse still, at this critical moment for the Cuban people, they have chosen to support the regime with weakened sanctions, higher revenues and cuts in the Office of Broadcasts to Cuba,” Republican congressman of Cuban origin Mario Díaz-Balart declared at a press conference. .

In a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Assault Brigade 2506, Joe Carollo, Miami commissioner, assured that “the battle for the freedom of Cuba is not over.” Also present at the event were the mayors of Miami, Francis Suárez, and Doral, Juan Carlos Bermúdez, as well as commissioners and other exile figures.

Orlando Gutiérrez, coordinator of the Assembly of the Resistance, asked the Biden Administration to help Cubans who want “freedom and democracy” and urged it to convince the “Western democracies” that provide “hard money that the Cuban government uses to operate and repress” that cut off the flow to a “63-year dictatorship.”

The exile representatives also extended the request to the government of Canada and the governments of the countries of the European Union (EU) not to finance the repression in Cuba by favoring the flow of tourists to the Caribbean island.

In Miami, the activities for the anniversary of 11J will culminate with a march through the streets, preceded by various cultural, religious and patriotic acts.
