Executive Power extended VAT exemption to baked goods and derivatives

With the signature of President Luis Lacalle Pou and eight ministers that make up the cabinet, the government decided to extend for a period of 30 days the exemption from VAT on common white bread, campaign cookies, pasta and noodles.

The decree, with number 143/022, has only two articles, and states that “disposals corresponding to the retail stage” of the aforementioned articles are exempted.

The document, dated Thursday the 5th, also expresses regarding the consideration that “currently the unstable international and regional economic conditions that determined the sanction of Law No. 20,028 (of April 7) persist, which have affected an increase in the prices of these products.

The text also states that “the Executive Power was empowered to extend, for the only time, the established period” of 30 days, marked in the decree signed and communicated in the first days of April. The measure will take effect again from next Sunday, June 8, and until Wednesday, June 8 inclusive.

The government made the same decision with the asado. The extension applies from last Saturday, April 23 and for a period of 30 days, until Sunday 22, “to the disposal of fresh, frozen or chilled beef from the roast cut of ten to thirteen ribs.”
