Executive considers postponing projects

Today, at a press conference, the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, presented a bill that seeks to postpone any initiative that generates an impact on the General Expenditure Budget during the electoral year.

“We are completing a bill that seeks to postpone any project that generates an impact on the General Expenditure Budget. We will make available to Congress. This generates limitations and shields all the Powers of the State. This will only be during the election year,” he maintained.

The objective of the bill is to maintain the stability and sustainability of public finances during electoral times. The proposal will govern the three Powers of the State, the Organisms and Entities of the State (OEE) and the corporations with majority shareholding of the State.

“Electoral years are characterized by more pressure from various sectors. If we generate consensus, this project will generate an impact from now on. With the sectors that we have already made a prior agreement, it will not be contemplated within this project that seeks to limit expenses during the electoral year, ”he said.

In this way, they will be suspended for their legislative treatment and postponed until the end of the respective electoral season:

  • Law projects that imply wage increases or increases in supplementary remuneration.
  • Proposals on the increase of current or capital expenses, without technical support.
  • Projects that affect the tax system.
