After almost a month without a response, the Executive Branch observed a law without meritocracy that would allow more than 180 thousand teachers to enter the Public Teaching Career without taking the National Teacher Test. A norm that affected equal opportunities with teachers who did take the exam, according to the corresponding protocol.
The law proposed that teachers only have to have more than three years of service in regular basic education in order to work for the State.

“The State has made a great effort in the last 10 years to increase the salaries of our teachers. In fact, they had very low salaries compared to other professions, but that is no longer the case. So an effort has been made to compensate all our teachers who are in the public teaching career well,” said Marcela Benavides of Businessmen for Education, a civil association that contributes to the improvement of national public education.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, more than 72,000 teachers have been appointed this year through a meritocratic process, which has allowed the percentage of appointed teachers to rise from 51% to 68% nationwide.
