There are already 87 deaths this year at the hands of National Police agents in alleged exchanges of fire and in other circumstances still pending clarification. From January to October, the average is two people killed per week.
In September, seven victims were reported, in August five, in July eight, and in June, the highest number of the year, 16 cases. In May 10 were registered, in April 14, in March 12, in February three and in January six.
From January 1 to October 22 of this year, three more cases have been recorded than during the entire year 2023.

The most recent case occurred early Sunday morning, when agents shot at least nine times at Luis Antonio Martínez Peña, 37 years old, in the Villa Liberación sector, Santo Domingo Este. His remains were buried yesterday morning in the Cristo Salvador cemetery.
Martínez Peña had worked in the Economic Kitchens for seven years. According to his relatives, he was not a criminal and did not deserve to die that way.
Regarding the case, the spokesperson for the National Police, Diego Pesqueira, indicated that the man had no criminal record.
Alias ”the Hood”
Another man, identified as “el Capó” or “42”, 37 years old, was also killed in the Los Maestros sector, in the Consuelo municipality, San Pedro de Macorís province.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning, when the agents were pursuing him with the intention of arresting him, after having been accused of several crimes in the province.
According to the preliminary report, the man was wanted for illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, vehicle theft and homicide, among others.
Two dead in Los Alcarrizos
On October 10, police shot dead Darling Isaac Rosario, aka “Bad Boy”, 22 years old, already Óscar Morbán Joaquín, known as “El Negro” or “Snake”, in the Los Arenosos sector, municipality of Los Alcarrizos.
