Ex-husband of pro-government deputy accepts voluntary extradition to the US for drug trafficking

Santo Domingo.- The ex-husband of the official representative Jacqueline Fernández, Esteffany José (Ethian) Vásquez Amarante agreed to be sent voluntarily to Puerto Ricowhere he faces charges of drug trafficking and money laundering.

The deputy attorney Osvaldo Antonio Bonilla Hiraldodirector of International Legal Assistance of the Public Ministryexplained that the judges of the Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, Fran Soto, María Garabito and Francisco Ortega Polanco, accepted the simplified extradition procedure.

The arrest of Vasquez Amarante, who keeps prison in the Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR) Cucama de La Romana, occurred last October.

The Public Ministry recalled that the justice system of Puerto Rico claims the Dominican for the charges of distribution of more than five kilos of cocaine to be illegally imported into its territory, in violation of sections 963 and 959, letter A, and 960, of the Code of the USAin addition to engaging in criminal association to commit the crime of money laundering.

The judges authorized keeping Vasquez Amarante in preventive detention, as a measure of coercion, until complete the process of its delivery.
