An internal war within the masismo was unleashed by former president Evo Morales and his former minister, Juan Ramón Quintana, who received a barrage of responses from the very leaders of the organizations that make up the Pact of Unity. At the same time, they provoked a furious response from El Alto, a city they mentioned in their accusations.
“I want to tell this man (Juan Ramón Quintana) not to come to talk about El Alto, nor to say insults, because he is the first coward who has escaped. We, the people of El Alto, have stayed to show our faces here to face themknowing that we were militarized, knowing that the Police were after us, we have stayed and we have not gone to look for lodging in the embassy of Mexico”, launched the mayor of El Alto, Eva Copa, referring to the statements made by Quintana, who said that El Alto was a cave of the US agency USAID.
The first mayoral authority harshly lambasted the words of Evo Morales and the slogan of “homeland or death” and criticized the fact that he had left the country and recalled the conditions in which they faced the government of Jeanine Áñez.
“Now the little boys are madenow it is very easy to say you have to have conviction, that there is a model of man, there are such and such, listen and why did you not say that in 2019, where were you?
Morales offered a press conference in Cochabamba in an attempt to prove his accusations about the “black plan” to discredit him, or the communications that sought meetings with him and those statements only provoked more anger among masistas.
“We all have a time, that has to be understood (Evo Morales), that self-centeredness is going to harm our party and it will harm our country. Renewal is good, and if the time has come to renew, you have to do it, you don’t always have to try to eternalize yourself in a position, change is better,” said one of the intercultural executives, Adalid Carvajal, who suggested the political retirement of the former president.
Also, the peasant leader launched his accusations against Quintana and told him that I had no morals to criticize the Government of Luis Arce. Like other politicians, he reminded her of his refuge in the Mexican embassy.
“Just as Juan Ramón did, so have other ministers, they have escaped to embassies, others have gone abroadthen the only weak one is him, what moral does he have to speak with a loud voice and say that we are weak? which weak fuck?, the only one due is he who escapedWhy didn’t he put his chest on him like a true soldier of military training?” Carvajal questioned.
Likewise, a statement from the MAS finished pouring gasoline on the fire because he did not know Hugo Moldiz as his representative before international events. “Hugo Moldiz already has precedents for the usurpation of political spokesman, such as when in 2006 he appointed himself representative of a supposed ‘People’s General Staff’, together with Mr. Román Loayza. In 1997 he supported Alejo Veliz, against the leadership of brother Evo Morales, trying to divide the left. It should be clarified that both Loayza and Véliz today are agents of the right in our country”, refers to the party statement.
And as for foreign policy, the Bolivian Foreign Ministry found the best moment to enter this political struggle. The head of Bolivian diplomacy chose to refer to the presence of USAID in Bolivia and denied Morales.
“From that sovereign decision and to date, the government of the Plurinational State of Bolivia has carried out the corresponding actions to ratify the decision made in the same terms of the 2013 administration. The national government does not allow, nor will it allow USAID’s operations in the country”, says a concise statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In this way, the masistas did not need the opposition supporters to enter their struggle and the leadership of the party has already been questionedwhen the MAS is preparing to hold a congress that must elect directors.
