The evism met yesterday in an emergency. The extended session lasted more than six hours and all the speeches targeted the judges of the Plurinational Constitutional Court (TCP) without leaving aside criticism of the Government. In the end, they decided to redirect their agenda to request the dismissal of those magistrates and abandoned the idea of resuming the road blockades that they carried out for 24 days until last week. Yesterday no one spoke about the measure despite the 72-hour pause that they declared on Thursday for “humanitarian” reasons.
The town of Lauca Ñ, in the tropics of Cochabamba, woke up armored with five security rings. In this town, the “emergency expansion” of the MAS Evista was developed and the coca guard decided to install tight control “to take care of the life” of Evo Morales. The meeting ended with ten conclusions.
Among the agreed points is, precisely, the resignation of the TCP magistrates and the ratification of their leader as a candidate for the 2025 elections.
It was Morales himself who took the microphone and read the conclusions. The faction of the Evista Unity Pact and the so-called General Staff of the People will meet this Monday to analyze how they will execute each of the measures approved in the new document.
“If what the self-extended magistrates say is legal, that sentence applies to 2030. We are still qualified,” Morales said about the TCP ruling that left him out of next year’s presidential election race.
“The only candidate is Evo Morales” said the peasant leader Ponciano Santos and spoke of representatives “of the right and the United States Embassy.” He then asked the union organizations to confirm whether they will participate in the proposal to march towards La Paz and Sucre.
“I am suggesting, I am not imposing companions. If we want to make a revolution, we are going to do it, but let’s not lie to ourselves, we will sign the letterhead, there we will know who is going and who is not going,” Santos indicated. Faced with this proposal, Evo said: “We are going to plan the march to Sucre, we are going to plan with the leaders evaluating the political situation.”
The 24-day evista blockade was lifted following requests from Morales himself to declare an “intermediate quarter” and shortly before the election of Andrónico Rodríguez as president of the Senate.
Deputy Carlos Alarcón of the Citizen Community (CC) said that behind this re-election there could have been an agreement between the two factions of the MAS.
“As it is illegal for them to return the money they have received from January until now. All his actions are null and void,” Morales stated when accusing the TCP magistrates. He assured that it was legally proven that “he is qualified” for the 2025 general elections.
Another point of the conclusions is that evism asks the national government and international organizations to investigate those responsible for the alleged attack that Morales suffered on October 27. The former president revealed that he already has the list of those who allegedly shot him that Sunday. “We have a list of those who shot us, of those who were there that day, the Police themselves told us, everything is known, the world is small. Let’s see if they find those responsible,” he said.
According to Evo, the four most notable points of the Evista congress are: resignation of the self-prorogated magistrates, the analysis of marches to the cities of La Paz and Sucre, recognition of the X Congress of Lauca Ñ and rejection “of the privatization” of lithium.
We are united, willing to continue the fight until we find solutions to the problems that our beloved Bolivia suffers,” Morales wrote on social media accounts.
In September, Morales already led a 200-kilometer march between Caracollo and La Paz to demand that his candidacy for the Presidency be recognized. So he let the organizations that are loyal continue the fight.
In October, after the rape complaint against Evo became known, “a national blockade” was organized to demand that these complaints be lifted. The measure did not achieve its objective, but there were several episodes of violence and dozens of detainees from the ranks seen.
The Minister of Economy, Marcelo Montenegro, said on Saturday that they have a plan to avoid blockades and other pressure measures that seek deaths and in that way convulse the country.
