If you plan to travel with your pet, be it a dog, cat or other, on your New Year’s holidays or in any other season, this note will save you time and headaches in the permit process that you need to manage.
The veterinary doctor Rolando Fernándezfrom the Sudamericana veterinarian, clarifies the current regulations and some important tips to take into account.
Essential requirements for domestic flights:
1. Age: Your pet must be at least four months old and have its vaccinations up to date. In the case of cats, the anti-rabies and feline triple vaccine; and for dogs, anti-rabies and hexavalent. In both cases they must have internal and external deworming 14 days prior to the trip.
2. Trips abroad: In addition to the requirements mentioned above, the animal health certificate valid for 10 days prior to the trip is required. It can be processed at veterinarians that have the service. It is recommended to take the animal to the vet to have exact information at the time of filling out the document.
Dogs and cats should go to the vet for a medical check-up.
3. Animal health certificate: It has a cost of Bs 150. The owner must present a photocopy of her identity card.
4. Documents of the pet: Photocopy of the pet’s vaccination card signed by a veterinarian
5. Region requirements
European Union: It requires you to have a microchip. The rabies vaccine must have a minimum of 30 days from its placement up to one year of validity. Serological test carried out three months before the trip.
Chili: Deworming (internal and external) must be valid for 15 to 30 days.
Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela: They accept the rabies vaccine with a validity of 14 days onwards. Deworming (internal and external) should not be valid for more than 15 days.
United States Agone: Requires a CDC authorization document. It can be requested by mail [email protected])
BoA airline requirements
1. You must travel in a kennel or cage designed for animals

3. The maximum dimensions should be 25 cm high and 33 cm wide by 36 cm deep. The pet must remain in its cage the entire trip. It must be placed under the seat, in front of the owner
Four. The weight of the pet, including the transport case, cannot exceed 8 kilos, if it is greater, it must be transported in the mailbox of the aircraft. From 5 kg, an additional charge will be made for each extra kilo, up to the 8 kilos allowed.
5. Submit originals and photocopies of vaccination and animal health certificates.
6. Emotional support dogs: the maximum weight for them to be transported in the cabin is 18 kg. If their weight is higher, you can transport them at a cost in the hold area, using a rigid transport kennel of adequate size.
