Everything would be worse, if the prices of mobile and fixed telephony had not fallen

Last year, general inflation ended at 7.82% at the annual rate; In contrast, mobile telephony services dropped 7.82% in price, while fixed packages that include telephony, internet and pay TV fell even more, 8.34%.

The IFT also indicated that this trend is maintained in January 2023, which represents a direct benefit on the 88.6 million internet users in Mexico. Because, in addition, “the decrease in prices has a direct impact on the access and use of these services.”

“Generic mobile phones and internet, phone and pay TV packages functioned as an ‘anchor’ to prevent inflation from being higher than observed.” Along with domestic LP gas, which fell 10.31% annually in 2022.

The decrease in communications prices meant savings that families were able to allocate to the consumption of other essential goods or services. Above all, considering that food, clothing, drinks and even the prices of inns and restaurants rose in price in 2022.
