There is great anticipation in Argentina for Iker Muniain’s debut today with San Lorenzo. Everything points to the former Athletic captain starting the match against Vélez on the bench, but even so there is huge interest in seeing him in action with his new team. The match at the Nuevo Gasómetro is scheduled to kick off at 8pm (3pm in Buenos Aires).
The arrival of the footballer to Navarre has caused a great stir in the Ciclón’s entourage. The blue and red club has launched a special promotion of season tickets with the image of Muniain so that fans can attend this and the rest of the matches that remain to be played in this stadium until the end of the year and has even undertaken various works to open screens in the South Stand and renovate the tunnel where the players will come out. Everything is ready, therefore, to give warmth and colour to the match that should be the debut of the ex-lion before his new fans.
San Lorenzo coach Pipi Romagnoli surprised everyone this week during one of his training sessions by testing Muniain in a position that is not his usual one. The Navarrese player played in the training session with the substitutes in what is known in Argentina as a ‘double five’ (double pivot). In any case, everything seems to be reduced to a simple test.
According to those close to the club, the former Athletic captain is in good physical condition and maintains his footballing quality, although he may notice a lack of competitive rhythm because it has been four months since he played his last official match.
