Violence against women in Mexico “is not decreasing, it is getting worse.” From January to October of this year, 2,375 were murdered, which means that every three hours a life is taken for the simple fact of being a woman. Likewise, daily 755 women experience family violence and every hour two suffer sexual assault, stated the National Shelter Network (RNR).
Despite the above, since the RNR’s external care centers increased their care by 208 percent in 2025 and the network has provided support to 11,442 women victims of sexist violence, the resources for the shelters are still not fully released, lamented Wendy Figueroa, director of the group.
Yesterday, in the context of International Human Rights Day, the RNR carried out the Open Microphone activity for the Reality that the State does not Listen to at the Monument to the Revolution, in which Figueroa detailed The Day that of the approximately 47 shelters that receive federal resources this year, 10 have not received the second 2025 ministerial, while all of the shelters have not been given the money to pay the fees of the professionals (psychologists, lawyers and social workers) who work there.
Shouting “Shelters yes, feminicides no” and “Liberation of the budget now”, the members of the RNR demanded to make clear what the resource for these spaces will be in 2026, because due to the modification of the budget section where the shelters are located, it is now difficult to know what part of the 857 million pesos will be assigned to them.
