The Digital Femicide Observatory gathers data from digital news portals in Venezuela to monitor the social situation, since the State does not publish official figures.
In February of this 2023 Cepaz documented six femicides, only in the first week of the month. “We have documented six completed femicides and six frustrated ones in Venezuela. Every 14 hours a femicidal action occurred during this period.” Cepaz warned in a report.
The organization reiterated that in Venezuela there is a need for a formal national statistics system, that makes the data public and freely accessible and reflects the advances in the investigation and sanction of the cases. Also to publicize the figures and official records of femicides and data that reflect not only the number of cases, but the specific causes and the aforementioned phenomena associated with them.
“Only in this way will it be possible to advance in the construction of policies for the prevention of femicidal violence with a multisectoral, interdisciplinary and interinstitutional approach, which defines responsibilities and actions and which is public knowledge,” the organization emphasized in a note reviewed by runrunes.
