Every month the Panama City Hall receives 16 thousand kilograms of waste to recycle

Through the Zero Waste program and the public-private agreement Recycle for Your Future, the capital’s Mayor’s Office receives some 35,200 pounds or 16,000 kilograms of waste made up of recyclable materials each month, thereby preventing it from ending up in the sanitary landfill of Patacon Hill.

With this recycling program, the Mayor’s Office of Panama seeks to reduce waste disposal through the implementation of the so-called three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle), through awareness, logistics, regulations and institutional strengthening schemes.

There are 23 recycling stations, which are enabled and most remain open 24 hours a day, with the exception of those that are located in institutions with hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, which allow the reinsertion of the recycled materials under a circular economy model.

The mayor’s office highlighted that the recycling points are distributed in the corregimientos of Betania, Chilibre, Bella Vista, Don Bosco, Juan Diaz and Ancón.
