National Government authorities carried out this Saturday commemorative events for Flag Day at the National Pantheon in Caracas.
The Vice President for Citizen Security and Peace, Remigio Ceballos; the General Commander of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), Elio Estrada; the Minister for Culture, Ernesto Villegas; the Minister for University Education, Sandra Oblitas; among other authorities, were present at the venue.
The events included the raising of the national flag, commemorating the first time it was done on Venezuelan soil in 1806 by Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda at the Vela de Coro, as well as cultural activities.
During his speech, quoted by VTVEstrada stated that the flag represents the political, historical and cultural identity of Venezuelabeing “a source of inspiration to preserve its inalienable condition of being free and sovereign.”
“Today we are inspired by the commitment and the impetus of those men and women who refused to be a colony of plundering and immoral empires in their courage, dedication and sacrifice, and there is the irrevocable promise that Venezuela is determined to make a republic that bases its moral heritage and its values of freedom, equality, justice and international peace on the doctrine of our Liberator Simón Bolívar,” he declared.
Estrada also recognized the GNB on its 87th anniversary, stating that he can define it as “an illustrious and virtuous component of the military institution, which reserves in its ranks an invaluable contingent of men and women with a vocation for service.”
“Tomorrow, August 4, will mark another year of Carrubio consolidation and commitment, being today a stronger and more resplendent GNB, synonymous with spiritual loyalty to the cause of the integral defense of the nation, always ready and willing to guarantee the supreme happiness possible for the Venezuelan people,” he added.
