The Archdiocese of Caracas shared a message from Cardinal Baltazar Porras, in which he invites everyone to participate “in an atypical process.” The elections next Sunday have been marked by the persecution of opponents and the blocking of media
The Archdiocese of Caracas shared a message from Cardinal Baltazar Porras this Friday, July 26, in which he invites people to participate in the elections on July 28 despite the fact that “there is no equality” among the participants and that it is an atypical process.
“We are on the threshold of an electoral process that is certainly atypical, for reasons that we all know and that cannot be denied because there is no equality in the participants, but there is a great will in the Venezuelan people to want not only to vote, but to participate and to participate means to choose and for the popular will to be respected,” he said in a video posted on the social network X.

On July 28, Venezuela will be going through a presidential election marked by persecution, arbitrary arrests and blockades of media and information portals. In addition, Chavismo has reduced international observation to a minimum. So far, only the Carter Center and some observers from the United Nations will be present.

Porras also said that “as believers” they also had the obligation to pray. “So that we may have a peaceful heart, so that violence does not rule our society, because we do not want to eliminate each other but rather that in the midst of differences we can find paths of good and progress for all,” he says in the video.
“Let us pray as a family for that necessary vision towards the beyond, that of helping others so that we can truly be protagonists of what we want for our country. May the Lord bless Venezuela in these days that are crucial for the well-being of all,” he concluded.
