That passersby have to get off the sidewalk to avoid the bottom of a propped building, about to collapse, is a common sight in some neighborhoods of the Cuban capital, especially in Old Havana and its surroundings. The strange thing is that one of those buildings in ruins is a police station.
And so is the police unit of Los Sitio, in Centro Habana, located on one of the busiest streets in the city. Surrounded by rubble and supported by struts, the building, on Reina Street between Rayo and San Nicolás, barely remains standing. Or as the Cuban says in the streets, in “miraculous static”, because it is not well understood why it has not yet fallen.
This is how the Cuban Revolution will soon reach its 63rd anniversary, amid landslides, dirt and poverty.
