Evelyn Inga, the race walker who put Peru in the top 8 in the world

Evelyn Inga left everything on the track and finished in eighth place at the Olympic level. She dazzled in the women’s 20 km race walk held at the Place du Trocadero in Paris, where she made history. She achieved a time of 1:28:16, Mary Luz Andía came in 12th place and the great Kimberly García took 16th place.I am very happy. Our results speak louder than we do. The fact that I have obtained this position is a source of pride for me. Maybe I have not had all the financial support that I would have liked, that limited me, but I gave my all in my preparation with the resources that I had.” Evelyn said in an interview with Canal N.

He also had words for Kimberly García. “I feel that we owe her a lot, thanks to her we hear about Peru. There is always a bad day and we hope that she can get up to give us more joy, because no one is going to take away the merit that she has achieved to date.”he pointed.

In El Tambo, her parents followed their darling’s competition minute by minute and, filled with excitement, anxiously awaited the opportunity to contact her to congratulate her.

“I am very happy, achieving eighth place is something wonderful for Peru. Even though I have the flu, I couldn’t miss a single moment. At one point she was second, but due to sport-related reasons she finished eighth and I feel proud,” said Mr. Francisco Inga, Evelyn’s father.

Carmen Huaynalaya, Evelyn’s mother, said excitedly: “I didn’t expect it, because I was so nervous I stopped watching the race but I still sent my strength and good vibes for her to do well. Being her mother, I admire her a lot.”

The family is excitedly awaiting Evelyn’s arrival, whom they will welcome with her favorite dish: mondongo.

Minimum support

For their part, authorities from the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) also expressed their pride and excitement with the results.“There is a support program for athletes that provides them with a monthly financial compensation and they are supported with food and the biomedical equipment of the High Performance Center (CAR). This team consists of a sports doctor, a physiotherapist, a sports psychologist, a sports nutritionist and a social worker.”said the president of the IPD Regional Council, Magali Ávila Camargo.

She acknowledged that support is not what was expected and called on the private sector. “There is state support in this regard, it is minimal and insufficient, no one denies it. The private sector can sponsor professional athletes and those in training, businessmen are the owners of themselves, whereas we depend on what the Central Government decides,” he added.
