In the message, the organization made an urgent call to the Government and international organizations to Strengthen security policies and avoid similar tragedies in the future.

In his statement, Cedecol expressed its concern about the lack of protection of religious leaders in the country and warned that the murder of Marlon Yamith Lora, his wife Yurlay Rincón and their children Ángela Natalia and Santiago, are not an isolated case, but part of a pattern of threats and persecutions in regions such as Cauca, Pasto, Sur de Bolívar and other areas.

The Confederation denounced that the lack of protection measures by the National Protection Unit (UNP) shows a gap in the safeguarding of those who work for spiritual well-being and social of their communities.

Cedecol called on the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of the Interior, the Attorney General’s Office, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Office in Colombia of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, among other entities and organizations , so that immediate and effective measures are taken.

For their part, the authorities have intensified investigations to clarify the massacre that occurred on December 29 in a restaurant in Aguachica (Cesar). In addition, They offered a reward of up to 50 million pesos for information leading to the capture of those responsible.

Although various hypotheses were initially considered, the authorities ruled out extortion as a motive, since the Lora Rincón family had not reported previous threats. The main line of investigation points to a possible confusion of objectives in the attack.
