On Saturday night (22), One of the national coordinators of the Front of Evangelicals for the Rule of Law, Ismael Lopes, was attacked during a vigil in support of former president Jair Bolsonaro, preventively detained, in the condominium where he was under house arrest in Brasília.
On social media, Ismael says that he underwent a forensic examination at the Legal Medical Institute (IML) and that he is fine, “as far as possible” and that he had few injuries.
Ismael went to the scene and tried to speak to the defendant’s supporters, but was harassed. In a video posted online, people even shout to let him go, saying it is “a trap.” Even so, supporters push Ismael and knock him to the ground.
After the incident, he gave a statement to the press: “I came here in an initiative to try to make a speech based on the word of God to put an end to this instrumentalization of the Christian faith that they do”, he says.
“Saying, in the name of God, defending people who attacked the nation, who attacked the democratic rule of law,” he added.
THE vigil was mentioned by the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes as one of the reasons for Bolsonaro’s preventive arrest.
The meeting to pray for the former president had been called via social media. In the early hours before the meeting, the electronic ankle bracelet used by Bolsonaro was detected as having been tampered with.
Given this, Moraes identified a possible risk of an escape attempt and requested preventive detention. The vigil continued and supporters went to the agreed location.
