The European Union recognized Brazil as free of avian flu and allowed the return of chicken meat exports to the block.
In Post on Social Network XMinister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, said he made a video conferencing with European Union Health Commissioner, Oliver Várhelyi, to address the issue. The Minister of Fisheries, André de Paula, also participated in the virtual meeting.
“We had good news. First the recognition of status for Brazil free of aviary flu, which will allow us to resume exports to Europe,” he said.
Bloco countries had suspended import Because of a case of avian flu in a commercial farm, registered in the municipality of Montenegro (RS), in May.
In June, Brazil declared free from the disease after disinfection of the affected farm and have not registered any other case for a period of 28 days.
In total, 41 countries have already removed the embargo. On the 25th, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Namibia and Northern Macedonia removed the restrictions for the purchase of chicken meat from Brazil.
With this Thursday’s announcement, Canada, China, Malaysia, Pakistan and Timor-Leste still maintain an embargo on imports of Brazilian poultry meat.
The minister also said that the European Union commissioner pledged to have a meeting with the bloc’s member states to remove sanitary barriers to the importation of the chicken produced in Brazil and resume the prelistingprocess suspended since 2018 and recognizing the equivalence of health inspection systems for Brazilian exports.
“His commitment is that in the coming weeks, the European Community Member States will gather to remove reinforced control and the return of pre-listing so important to Brazil, which has been suspended since 2018,” added Fávaro.
