European Union Pavilion at Book Fair will show solidarity with Ukraine

Santo Domingo.- The Ambassador of the European Union in the Dominican Republic Katja Afheldt, guest of honor at the XXIV International Book Fair 2022, reported today at the opening ceremony that in the next ten days the EU will present a show of solidarity in its pavilion with Ukraine with a mural where visitors can leave a message of support for the country.

Similarly, he stressed that the EU will show its cultural and linguistic wealth at the FIL in the reading festival.

The EU ambassador in the country indicated that book fairs have become a space for reading, culture and education; that act as a tourist, social and cultural attraction and as a meeting space with writers in person, however, she pointed out that its economic background cannot be forgotten since in the EU the orange economy represents 6% of GDP.

He also expressed that the creative economy has an economic relevance, a social value and a commitment to innovation and talent.

The extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador Katja Afheldt announced that this edition of the EU International Book Fair will offer an extensive program with activities designed for all audiences, which include: workshops on copyright with the best experts and professionals in Europe , for creative writing, to write film and television scripts and talks with European authors who will come to the country to present their literary works, such as the Italian Giovanni Dozzini, Jan Carson from Antrim and Kallia Papadaki, from Greece, all winners of the European Award for Literature.

The event was attended by the Minister of Culture Milagros Germán, the Minister of Education Roberto Fulcar, the general director of the Book Fairs, Joan Ferrer, as well as officials from both the government and the accredited diplomatic corps in the country, the delegation of international writers who will participate in the event and special guests.

“Come to the book”

With the motto “Come to the book”, this edition will be dedicated to the Dominican writers Carmen Natalia and Pedro Peix, and will feature the European Union as a special guest.

FILSD 2022, which will take place until May 2 in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, will open its doors to the public on Saturday, April 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with free admission. to the different pavilions and stands.
