European Union launches new call to finance agri-food initiatives in Cuba with up to 40 thousand dollars

The project “Support for new economic actors for economic, innovative and sustainable diversification (NAE)”, supported by the European Unionopened a new call aimed at actors in the agri-food sector in the western, central and eastern regions of Cuba.

The initiative seeks to promote sustainable production, job creation and technological innovation.

Likewise, it will allow micro, small and medium-sized companies (MSMEs), non-agricultural cooperatives (CNA) and local development projects (PDL) access financing of up to 40 thousand US dollars for the acquisition of equipment and materials.

The NAE project is developed in alliance with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the French Cooperation in Cuba, the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP), its National Institute of Economic Research (INIE), the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (MINCEX), the Ministry of Communications (MINCOM), the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) and the National Institute of Non-State Economic Actors (INAENE), among other national institutions.

Cuba and the European Union: strengthening food sovereignty

According to the organizers, the purpose of the call is to “strengthen productive capacity, promote sustainability and enhance food sovereignty” in the territories, in line with local development strategies and the 2030 Agenda.

The new call is launched after the selection of 10 agri-food initiatives from eastern Cuba in the first stage of the program, which has already begun to show results in economic diversification and territorial inclusion.

Ten agri-food projects in eastern Cuba will receive financial support from the European Union

The term of project presentation It will be open from November 21 to December 19, 2025, with an evaluation process of up to four months.

For entrepreneurs in the east of the country, the period will be extended until January 16, 2026, in consideration of the impact of the Hurricane Melissa and the current recovery phase in that area.

Impartial selection and technical support

The proposals will be analyzed by multidisciplinary teams of specialists from all over the country.

Each group will be made up of an odd number of members and none will evaluate projects from their own region, to guarantee the transparency and impartiality of the process.

Those interested may request advice and technical support through the provincial Territorial Development directorates. Support units have been set up there that will operate from the beginning of the call until the closing of applications.
