The European Commission reaffirmed its commitment to the Venezuelan crisis by announcing that, of the global fund of 123 million euros destined for Latin America and the Caribbean by 2026, €52 euros will be specifically directed to addressing the needs of Venezuelans. These resources seek to alleviate the effects of the migratory and social crisis both within the national territory and in the receiving communities of neighboring countries.
The announcement was made by the European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, and comes at a time when international funding faces significant cuts.
Lahbib emphasized that the European Union will maintain its role as a “reliable partner” in the face of worsening needs in the region.

In addition to direct attention to Venezuelans, the EU has set aside an additional €16.3 million to strengthen response capacity for natural disasters in South America, a measure that seeks to protect communities from extreme weather events such as floods and earthquakes.
The EU allocation for Venezuela represents almost 42% of the total fund allocated to the region, underlining the priority that Brussels gives to the South American country’s crisis within its international cooperation agenda.
