The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit of the Faculty of Medical Sciences UNA, Hospital de Clínicas, within the Division of Adult Cardiovascular Medicine, was officially enabled. Prof. Dr. Jorge Giubi, General Director of Assistance at the Hospital de Clínicas of the FCMUNA, mentioned that the unit will benefit a large number of patients in the sense that the protocol indicates, that after a highly complex invasive procedure, a cardiovascular surgery, or diagnostic or therapeutic catheterization, the patient must be in a space where they can be monitored, assisted and where emergencies must be resolved.
The Dean of the FCMUNA, Mgtr. Prof.Dr. Osmar Cuenca Torresstressed that for the institution it is a very important step to grow in complexity and specializationnot losing the course of being a teaching hospital where everything that is done is dedicated to the teaching of young doctors.
He assured that infrastructure will continue to grow and this year, they will be betting on the technology both in the undergraduate and postgraduate area because it is the best way to teach medical sciences.
For his part, the head of Adult Cardiology, PHD Prof. Dr. Javier Galeano, stated that thanks to the management of the FCMUNA authorities, the dream of having a CICU given the growth of the Cardiology areaafter having the Hemodynamics Unit, where complex procedures are carried out, both for coronary patients and those with structural pathologies.
He said that they hope to continue growing in complexity, resources, infrastructure and highly qualified human personnel and offer comprehensive help to the patient who comes to the service.
Finally, dr. jose candiaCardiologist specialized in Cardiovascular Intensive Care and Fellow in Cardiovascular Intensive Care, explained that cardiovascular diseases continue to be the main cause of mortality and morbidity at the country levelTherefore, it is necessary to continue growing as a service and offer patients quality care.
