MIAMI, United States. – This Thursday, the Delegation for Relations with Central America and Cuba of the European Parliament (DCAM) will examine the working conditions of the Cuban “medical missions”, according to the NGO Prisoners Defenders.
According to this group defending human rights, said “missions” are a “multibillion-dollar business of State slave capitalism, exercised by the Government of Cuba with all its civilian workers with contracts abroad.”
The groups affected are between 50,000 and 100,000 Cuban civilian workers who work in multinationals or for host States, through “placement agency” contracts from the Government of Cuba, which charges from 75% to 95% of the salary of each worker in the exterior, precise Prisoners Defenders.
The organization also recalls that the island’s regime leaves doctors and their families “in dire conditions that the United Nations has not hesitated to describe as modern slavery.”

Although the Cuban authorities were invited to participate, they have not yet responded, Prisoners Defenders said.
In the planned exhibitions, warnings will be made of the “slavery situation” suffered by Cuban doctors participating in the “missions” in countries like Mexico, and the scandal that the agreement to hire Cuban doctors promoted by the president of the region has caused in Europe. from Calabria, Roberto Occhiuto, who contravenes European legislation regarding the exercise of the medical profession and who also gives the island’s regime 75% of the monthly salaries of Cuban doctors.
Prisoners Defenders indicated in a statement who hopes that this event “will serve to put an end to the scourge of human trafficking in the world, especially in the case of Cuba, a country that has institutionalized slavery as its main source of income (around three times what the country for tourism).
“To exercise forced labor, in addition to many other measures, if a Cuban doctor leaves his post, whether by giving notice or not, or if he does not return to Cuba forcibly after years of work, he is prohibited from returning to Cuba and being able to see his family in eight years, which has caused thousands of children born to professionals abroad to be orphaned in Cuba,” the organization recalled.
