OnCubaNews

The groups Under the Surface (Netherlands), Sisma Tumbao (Italy) and Ingrid Jasmin (Norway) will be the protagonists this Saturday on the stage of the Cuban Art Factory during the closing night of the Havana World Music Festival (HWM).

The European flavor will be felt in the renowned cultural center, while the Cuban ensemble Synthesis will show off the mastery that for almost five decades has positioned him among the best of contemporary Cuban music, according to a report from the Prensa Latina (PL) agency.

Among the group’s most recent achievements is the Latin Grammys in the category of Folk Album, which was awarded in 2022 for the album Symphonic Ancestorsin which Eme Alfonso, the artistic director of HWM, participated as a producer.

The outlet highlights the closing presentation of Ingrid Jasmin, who stands out “for the electroacoustic fusion of Norwegian and Flemish folk music, performed with a distinctive melismatic vocal style.”

For its part, Sisma Tumbao will offer the public a fusion of “tropical rhythms, deep basses and traditional melodies, by the hand of creators from the opposite poles of Italy and who create a tribal force”, highlights the organizing team, quoted by PL .

Under the Surface articulates in its proposal the improvisation of three generations of Dutch musicians whose aesthetics and poetry make up a memorable sensory experience, both for the band and the public.

The night’s lineup also includes a performance by the Ashé group, which will bring viewers closer to their work related to the study, rescue and safeguarding of the oral heritage of orisha songs and other spiritual entities with an African nuance.

The publication stands out, which in the previous evenings was delighted by exponents such as Azilem, who is distinguished by his fusion of Trap with R&B, as well as AlexZoez & WizzoSanfer by exhibiting a proposal marked by jazz, urban, electronic and pop music.

The event also served to appreciate the work of the Isla Escarlata duo, which “is based on rap but explores genres such as son jarocho, traditional Cuban, Afrobeat and electronic music,” according to the festival’s official website.

Also featured in the lineup was the KanBu ensemble, which offers a marriage of samba, trap, Brazilian funk and popular sounds, and the rapper Telmary, a defender of African heritage in music while stimulating reflection on contemporary issues.

The HWM had its first edition in 2014 and since then it has been a proposal that has sought to bring together in Havana exponents of different rhythms of the musical universe whose banner is fusion to achieve a contemporary sound with various nuances.

Its creators have tried to reach an increasingly international audience and evolve as a sustainable festival that becomes a benchmark from Latin America.
