European deputies denounce in Miami the financing of the EU to the Cuban regime

The number of political prisoners in Cuba amounts to 1,148, denounces Prisoners Defenders

Several deputies and European leaders met this Friday in Miami at the headquarters of the Cuban Democratic Board (DDC).

Miami, United States. – During A conference organized this Friday by the Cuban Democratic Directory (DDC)In Miami, the Swedish parliamentarian Björn Söder said that the Agreement of Political Dialogue and Cooperation (PDCA) between the European Union (EU) and Cuba “has not led to improvements in the human rights situation in Cuba” and exemplified that “today there are more than 1,400 political prisoners on the island.”

He also said that “currently, the European Union finances about 80 projects in Cuba for the amount of 150 million euros per year”, and that these resources “have financed the dictatorship.”

Söder asked for a common line between Brussels and Washington “based on freedom and democracy.” “The United States and the European Union must align with their policies and send a clear and united message,” he said. He also raised as “coordinating the sanctions, cutting international financing for entities controlled by the regime, supporting those civil society focuses that are independent of the regime, [y] help political prisoners. ”

The European parliamentarian also remarked that “political freedom and human rights have to be the non -negotiable heart of the common policy of Europe and the United States towards the communist regime of Cuba” and that “only a joint effort of the United States and the European Union can break the control that the communist regime has exploited for so long.”

In the security plane, Marian Zablotskyi, Ukrainian deputy of the Supreme Rada for the town server party, warned about the use of Cubans as a combat force by Russia. “At this time we calculate that there are 5,000 Castrocommunist mercenaries fighting under Russian orders against Ukraine. And we have very good intelligence indicating that 20,000 more have already been recruited,” he said.

Zablotskyi said that the second largest international contingent fighting in favor of Russia is the Cuban after North Korea. “And soon there will be more Cubans than not Koreans,” he said. In addition, he argued that Moscow seeks to “create a legion of Latin American combatants”, with the ability to destabilize the region.

The Ukrainian deputy linked state and criminal actors with drone capabilities and Russian presence in Venezuela. “They have created a factory to build Russian drones that are used against Ukraine,” he said, and added that “hundreds, if not thousands, of Russian soldiers are already in Venezuela.” He recommended that democratic governments “modernize their armed forces and be proactive in this situation”, as well as “take more steps to freeze all kinds of financing” to the regimes of Cuba and Venezuela.

The exhibitor also denounced financial practices of the Cuban government with diplomatic headquarters. “The Castro regime has stolen $ 300,000 to the Ukraine Embassy in Cuba,” he said, while describing a scheme where Havana demands that “all the financing of these embassies pass through their state bank.” “It is not a normal diplomacy and I ask other embassies to do the same as the Ukraine government, which moves to the Dominican Republic or other countries,” he said.

At the opening of the event, Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat referred to The conference “Save Cuba”which will take place this Saturday in Miami. The leader of the DDC placed the appointment as an operational and unitary milestone of exile: “Everything indicates that the conference tomorrow, under the grace of God, will be the greatest, most inclusive meeting of Cuban resistance in exile that has taken place in decades,” he said.

He also stressed that the meeting will not be merely symbolic: “We are not here just to look pretty. (…) It will be a work day. It will be a long Workshop For Cuban Libertad, ”and thanked the presence of Latin America and Europe,” to come so far to support the Cuban people. “

Gutiérrez-Boronat defined the immediate objective how to gather “the different aspects, the different movements, the different opinions, under the same roof, just as it will be democratic Cuba”, and projected that this Saturday promises “being a historic day”.
