EU Supreme Court authorizes order that forces Google to reform his app store

The Supreme Court of the United States He refused on Monday to stop key parts of the order of a judge that forces Google to make important changes in his Play Applications store, while the company prepares to appeal a decision in a lawsuit filed by Epic Games“Fortnite” manufacturer.

The judges rejected Google’s request to temporarily freeze parts of the court order won by Epic Games in their lawsuit, which accused the technological giant of monopolizing the way in which consumers access applications on Android devices and pay for transactions within applications.

In July, a Federal Court of Appeals confirmed the order of the judge of first instance against Google, of Alphabet.

The order issued last year by federal district judge James Donato demands Google that allows users to download rival application stores inside their Play store and put the Play Applications Catalog available to the competition.

These provisions will not take effect until July 2026.

The judge also ruled that Google It must allow developers to include external links in applications, which will allow users to avoid the Google billing system.

That part of the court order will enter into force at the end of this month.
