A federal judge arrested on Friday the mass layoffs of the previous day in the United States Consumer Financial Protection Officesaying that I was deeply concerned that Donald Trump’s government had violated the orders that established conditions for cessations.
The agency dismissed between 1,400 and 1,500 workers on Thursday, eliminating up to 90% of its workforce.
A statement of a witness filed on Friday also accused an official associated with the government efficiency department of multimillionaire Elon Musk to ignore the court orders.
The witness said that Doge Gavin Kiger member also demanded to work a 36 -hour shift without breaks and verbally abused staff.
However, the Government Branch Human Resources Office where Kiger works rejected the accusations, qualifying them as “absolute lie” and ensuring that the official had not supervised the reduction of the workforce.
“These accusations are another attempt to undermine the fundamental mission of the Doge to make the government more effective and efficient,” said a spokesman.
“I am deeply worried, given the scope and speed of the agency’s action (…) on whether the agency is now in compliance with the preliminary court order,” said District Judge Amy Berman Jackson during an hearing convened after Thursday’s layoffs.
Jackson ordered that the mass layoffs on Thursday be suspended waiting for a decision on whether the government is violating its order.
