More than 200 international observers of the European Union (EU) and the Organization of American States (OAS) will move in the nine departments on August 17, the day of the general elections. The EU will have more than 120 veteransincluding representatives of the European Parliament and the OAS will have 89 observers of 19 nations.
The EU reinforced its mission with the arrival of 50 new short -term observersthat They add up to 32 long -term which were already deployed from July to different parts of the country. The watchtowers were trained in safety, logistics, first aid and aspects specifically related to voting operations.
The head of mission, the MEP Davor Stierhighlighted his trust “that the presence of the European Union gives the Bolivian electorate a solid base to increase credibility in the electoral process and contribute to the elections to develop in a transparent and inclusive way. ”
For his part, the attached chief of the EU Mission Alexander Gray explained that the short -term veterans who join the observation team will strengthen the work of the international organism in the electoral day. “They will visit the voting centers, to be at the tables and give us an idea of how the organization of the election day is developing,” Gray said.

“The task of our mission is fundamentally to contribute to the strengthening of Bolivian democracy and safeguarding that citizen expression next Sunday with impartiality and objectivity,” he said.
The OAS delegation met yesterday with the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) to receive the necessary information about the electoral process. The interim president of the electoral entity, Óscar Hastenufel, highlighted the importance of international presence in the electoral process upon receiving the OAS observers mission.
“For us it is important to receive these observation missions because (…) The more eyes look, it is much better. These missions allow us, not only that there is certainty in what will happen on election day, but allow us to receive many recommendations and suggestions, ”he emphasized.
