EU ambassadors expose young Nicaraguans on freedom and democracy

The ambassadors of the European Union (EU) in Nicaragua spoke about freedom, democracy and human rights with a group of young Nicaraguans during an exchange of experiences within the framework of the “Month of Europe” and the “European Year of Youth”, reported the diplomatic headquarters in the Central American country.

Ambassadors Bettina Muscheidt, from the EU; Christoph Bundscherer, from Germany; Brieuc Pont, from France; the heads of business of Spain and Italy, Jaime Ramos and Massimo Scalisi, respectively, as well as the head of Politics, Press and Information of the EU, Uwe Wissenbach, discussed peace, equality, solidarity, freedom, democracy and human rights in Europe , in a panel with six Nicaraguan students.

The panel, which was developed under the “Let’s talk with Europe” initiative, was entitled: “The Union in diversity facing the challenges and opportunities of the contemporary world.”

“Youth play a key role in each of these areas, priorities for the EU inside and outside our borders. Giving voice and prominence to young people, knowing their main problems and desires, their ideas and proposals, what they think about our work, is essential to improve our actions around the world and have a more grounded idea of ​​their real needs”, they pointed out. diplomats in a joint statement.

The exchange between diplomats and high school seniors, held in Managua before a young audience, was part of the “Let’s talk with Europe” initiative, promoted by the EU, “with the aim of sharing and reflecting with Nicaraguan youth on the European Union and its work in the political, economic, social, scientific, cooperation, and cultural fields, among others,” the organization said.

The “Month of Europe” is part of the commemorations of May 9, the date of the “Declaration of Robert Schuman”, which marked the beginning of the European Union under a policy of peace.

The commemorative activities include cultural exhibitions, art workshops, artistic exhibitions, and the second edition of the European Scholarship Fair, which offers the possibility of studies with easy access in different European countries.
