We want the contending associations to share with us their best experiences and provide constructive comments to solve our problems and, mainly, those of the nation, Ahmed said during the inauguration of the first congress of the ruling Prosperity Party (PP).
We are ready, said the also leader of the PP, to work transparently together with the opposition groups with the purpose of building an inclusive society capable of maintaining sustainable development.
Our party has ensured self-determination and inclusiveness, believes that it should turn every problem into an opportunity for self-improvement, and fight against bad practices to ensure the benefit of all Ethiopians, he said.
He also announced that “critical decisions will be adopted with a view to promoting development efforts and guaranteeing equality and democracy,” in addition to “electing new leaders capable of contributing to national prosperity.”
Under the motto “Rising from the challenges”, with the participation of 1,600 delegates and guests, the conclave of the organization, founded in December 2019, will be in session until next Sunday.
The attendees, representing more than 11 million affiliates throughout the territory, will discuss various issues related to the various policies, strategies, provisions and reforms applied since April 2018 to promote the comprehensive growth of the nation.
The PP emerged from the merger of political organizations of an ethnic nature, members of the former ruling coalition Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front.
More than 37 million voters, 47 contending parties and 9,300 candidates took part in the general elections last June 21, legitimized by the National Electoral Board and positively qualified by various international observers.
After a process that some political parties tried to boycott, mainly the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, the organization devised by Ahmed won the elections and the prime minister was re-elected in October 2021 to lead Ethiopia’s plans for the next five years.
