Ethics Council opens case against deputies involved in riot

The Ethics Council of the Chamber of Deputies approved today (7) the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against deputies Marcos Pollon (PL-MS), Marcel Van Hattem (Novo-RS) and Zé Trovão (PL-SC), due to the participation of riot held in the House plenary at the beginning of August. The processes were presented by the Board of Directors of the Chamber and received a favorable opinion from the house’s inspector, deputy Diego Coronel (PSD-BA).Ethics Council opens case against deputies involved in riot

Appended representations

The president of the Ethics Council, Fábio Schiochet (União-SC), informed that the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), joined the three representations and that, as a result, a single rapporteur will be chosen to analyze the requests.

Deputies Castro Neto (PSD-PI), Albuquerque (Republicanos-RR) and Zé Haroldo Catedral (PSD-RR) were drawn to report the procedure. The president of the collegiate said he will choose the rapporteur later.

Van Hattem questioned the joining of the representations, arguing that they are different, despite referring to an event that happened on the same day.

“There is no specific subjective link between the three cases. Combining them all creates a bad expedient for this council”, he said.

The president of the Council highlighted that the issue of apensing is “the sole and exclusive prerogative of the president of the Chamber”.

Other representations

In addition to the obstruction, Representative Pollon will also respond to another representation, as the offense was considered more serious due to having made offensive statements to the President of the Chamber. The president of the Council will choose the rapporteur from a triple list formed by Castro Neto (PSD-PI), Moses Rodrigues (União-CE) and Ricardo Maia (MDB-BA), selected by lot.

The magistrate also agreed to the application of written censure to 14 opposition parliamentarians who participated in the riot.

It will be up to the Board of Directors to apply the penalty to the deputies Allan Garcês (PP-MA), Bia Kicis (PL-DF), Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ), Caroline de Toni (PL-SC), Domingos Sávio (PL-MG), Julia Zanatta (PL-SC), Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), Paulo Bilynskyj (PL-SP), Marco Feliciano (PL-SP), Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ) and Zucco (PL-RS), as well as Pollon, Van Hattem and Zé Trovão.

According to Diego Coronel, the requests for punishment occurred based on the analysis of internal images of the Chamber and based on the arguments of the parliamentarians’ defenses.

Remember the case

In the early hours of August 6, opposition deputies and senators spent the night in the plenary sessions of the Chamber and Senate to maintain the occupancy of the Houses’ management tables, making it impossible to resume legislative work. The parliamentarians, mostly from the Liberal Party (PL), protest against the house arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro, decreed two days earlier. For government-based parties, the action is illegal and would represent a new attack on the institutions of the Republic.

They also demanded that the project of general and unrestricted amnesty for those convicted of attempted coup d’état in the trial of the coup plot be guided, and that the impeachment of the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, be also discussed.
