With the presentation of the topics that will include the First Data Opening Plan of the country and delivery of the 4th. version of the National Data Journalism Award 2021-2022.
Within the framework of the celebration of the International Day of Open Data, the General Directorate of Ethics and Government Integrity (DIGEIG), released the details on the National Plan for the Opening of Open Data of the Dominican Republic, which aims to increase the availability and capture of useful data, standardized to advance in the interconnection and relationship of data.
The general director of DIGEIG, Dr. Milagros Ortiz Bosch, stated that with the first National Data Opening Plan the government seeks to emphasize transparency, integrity, accountability, the prevention of administrative corruption and citizen participation by making available provision of relevant information from the public administration.
The former Vice President of the Republic specified that the National Data Journalism Award is aimed at the men and women of the press, who through the data report what the government is doing and how it is designing and investing in public policies and with these awards value citizens, the press and the public sector.
When congratulating the selection of the jury by the communications department, he praised the government’s decision to facilitate the in-depth investigation of all those who work in the media and exercise journalism with independence and critical capacity.

Finally, he valued the dedicated and objective work of the jury, and took the opportunity to highlight that its composition is also an indicator of the public’s commitment to freedom of expression.
Topics of the First National Data Opening Plan
The Plan is the first commitment of the V Open Government Action Plan 2022-2024, to gather information Ética has held five meetings at the national level where more than three hundred (300) people from different sectors, including high school and university students, gathered journalists, teachers, civil society and the government, who managed to identify information that they consider relevant to the citizenry, which the State from its agencies must release in open formats.
The director of Transparency and Open Government of DIGEIG, Lic. Elizabet Diaz de Oviedo, presented the most prioritized issues in the survey in order to capture the opinion of citizens, such as urban and interurban public transport routes broken down by provinces; list of national monuments, containing location, hours, costs, dimensions, restrictions, brief description, food area; List of national museums, containing location, hours, costs, restrictions, brief description, food area.
List of authorized beaches, rivers and spas, basic information, location, bathroom, supervisory authority, list of seized assets, broken down by description, date of seizure, quantity, location; list of the type of violence suffered by children or adolescents, that is, technological sexual violence, by province, sex, age, list of orphanages in the country, broken down by location, number of children, ages, gender. Also, list of prices of basic necessities divided by Supermarkets, Markets and Convenience Stores and list of centers for the elderly, location, type, capacity.

The following participated as jurors: Millizen Uribe, journalist, deputy director of the newspaper Hoy and member of the Uno más Uno program; Altagracia Salazar, journalist, producer of the Sin Maquillaje program and human rights activist; Joseph Abreu, general coordinator of Citizen Participation; Jared Ortiz, executive director of Alianza ONG; Servio Tulio Castaños, executive vice president of the Institutionality and Justice Foundation (FINJUS) and José Antonio (Pepe) García, regional coordinator of support for countries in North America, Central America and the Caribbean of the Open Government Partnership (OGP).

Due to its high level of commitment to transparency, guaranteeing the citizen’s right to Free Access to Public Information, through the release of public data in open formats, in the National Open Data Portal of the Dominican Republic, facilitating access, use, reuse and redistribution of data, and thereby contribute to strengthening democracy, the General Directorate of Government Ethics and Integrity recognized the Superintendency of Stock Market; the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs and the Hugo Mendoza Pediatric Hospital.
