Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Electric Transmission Company (ETED) It assured to be at the forefront with the implementation of state-of-the-art technology in its Control Center, which allows it to be on a par with other energy-producing countries in America.
According to the institution, the technology implemented in the ETED Control Center is compared to Colombia, Chile, Panama, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil, which produced the largest renewable energy production capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean, in 2021.
They added that their advances allow them to handle greater capacity and provide a better service than countries like Cuba, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
This Energy Control Center has the Scada system (supervisory control and Data Acquisition) is the tool used to supervise, operate and control the behavior of the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI).
In addition, it has Automatic Generation Control (AGC), which allows automatic secondary regulation with several generators simultaneously.
They offered this information during the hearing to the ETED Energy Control Center, in a tour carried out by journalists and communicators, who are studying the second diploma course on the electricity sector, organized by EdeSur and Intec,
ETED Energy Control Center
In it, the director of operations, Máximo Cepeda, detailed the operation and importance of this control room.
“Here the most important variables are the voltages, the power flows and the 60 ghz frequency, which is the most used by the large energy producers in all of America. The great relevance of these variables is that if any of these fail, the system can collapse,” said Cepeda.
He indicated that to prevent this from happening, this entity manages the distribution centers, generation and distributors that are EdeSur, Edenorte and EdeEste.
It also has unregulated clients (large industries that buy according to the market), all these companies are responsible for maintaining the frequency of the system, he assured.
Arroyo Hondo Substation
During the tour, the communicators also visited the Arroyo Hondo substation, shared by Edesur and ETED. This is Raúl Pinces, operations coordinator of the Dominican Electric Transmission Companyexplained that it is a substation, its components and what type it is that is in this locality.
A substation is a point where several lines converge, in which the transformation, distribution and transmission are carried out. Also in this place it has a link substation.
The circuits that feed the distribution part cover the area of Arroyo Hondo, Los Ríos, among others.
They detailed that they have the Palamara Electric substation as a link and from there it passes through the Isabela substation that feeds the subway, Los Mina and other sectors.
They added the elements that a substation has and the process that takes place there with electricity.
