the president of Grandmothers of Plaza de MayoEstela de Carlotto, participated on Tuesday in an act to commemorate the Remembrance Day for Truth and Justice in the British Parliament, from where he supported the campaign for the former ESMA Museum and Site of Memory to be included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Invited by him Interparliamentary and Interparty Group for the Prevention of Genocide and Crimes Against HumanityCarlotto addressed an audience made up of human rights organizations, specialists in memory issues, parliamentarians from the group and Latin American diplomats.
His speech was preceded by two minutes of silence in memory of the victims of “all forms of violence”, as reported in a statement.
Carlotto highlighted the “importance of going to an interparliamentary space where political flags are left aside in the name of peace“.
The human rights referent highlighted the campaign that Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo carries out together with the embassies and consulates of Argentina so that people who have doubts about their identity can “come closer”.
In this regard, Carlotto pointed out that “although 130 grandchildren have already been found, more than 300 missing“, so he asked that “each of those present help find them and spread the campaign.”
Referring to the campaign for the former ESMA to be included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, he stated that the site of memory “serves both as a condemnation, as incontrovertible proof of the acts of State terrorism, and as a symbol of ‘Never Again'”.
In this regard, Carlotto thanked the event organizers for their support to the former ESMA campaign and for the international dissemination of the search carried out by the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo.
