EsSalud warns about scam against families of deceased

EsSalud insurance manager Alberto Barrenechea has raised the alarm about a new type of scam that is affecting grieving families.

Criminals pose as health officials to deceive relatives and charge them for fake life insurance.

According to Barrenechea in an interview with Canal N, these criminal gangs obtain personal information about victims through social networks and publications in local media, where relatives express their grief over the death of a loved one.

With this information, the scammers contact the bereaved, using names and phone numbers that pretend to be from health institutions.

The modus operandi of these scammers is quite simple: they offer a supposed reimbursement for funeral expenses and life insurance, but they request an initial payment of 10% of the total amount as a condition for initiating the process.

This is a clear warning sign, since no health reimbursement procedure at EsSalud requires an advance payment.
