Monreal assured that judging by the meeting there are no reasons why the official should leave office.
“All the coordinators, without exception, endorsed their trust in him, there is no loss of trust in the prosecutor and in justice”, while his answers “seemed sincere to me”, declared the also leader of the Moreno senators in an interview.
“I don’t see any possibility at this time” of his being removed, nor was it a “field day”, but he has previously explained that such a procedure can only be initiated by the chief executive, he added.
However, the coordinator of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), Clemente Castañeda estimated that it was a much more cordial meeting, but where there were no specific responses.
Since today’s was the first appearance before senators, the emecist claimed that and that in 3 years only one FGR report has been presented. That is why it was agreed to set a schedule for future meetings.
In particular, the senator from MC demanded to clarify the espionage against Gertz, due to his capacity as prosecutor.
“It cannot be that the head of the FGR is being espionage. We demand that the final consequences be reached because it is a matter of national security,” said the orange legislator.
On other issues, Castañeda expressed his concern about the impunity that prevails in the country, since it affects human rights.
“A particular case is that of the practice of torture, since there is “an evident crisis, there are 5,000 investigations into torture and only one was prosecuted, this is the information we have. What is going on?” he questioned.
“The same in terms of forced disappearance, we are not clear on when criminal action has been taken and in how many cases there is a conviction,” he added.
