NY.- The first and only congressman of Dominican origin in the United States, Adriano Espaillat, when participating last weekend in the Christmas gathering offered by the entity “Press & Hispanic Community” (PreCoHis) to its members and special guests in Upper Manhattan, He affirmed that the Quisqueyan community faces great challenges and difficulties, but it has also achieved great successes and advances.
Before speaking out in this way, he admitted to professionals, businessmen, community members, journalists, and politicians, among others, that he liked this type of environment with representatives from different sectors.
He maintained that he lives in a daily world, full of formalism, which is like a tailored suit, “but when I meet with my friends, with people I appreciate and love, for me it is relaxing and it takes away my stress.”
He added that he enjoys sharing with his community, “and especially in this place, the 809 restaurant, since it was here that I received the results of our victory for the United States Congress, along with thousands of people, and I could have done it in Down Town, but I wanted it in this place.”
Wishing everyone a prosperous New Year, he stated that the challenges, difficulties, successes and advances of our community are often ignored or not published, but throughout the US we encounter a daily Dominican.
He gave as an example that when he participated in the Christmas party at the White House, a young man passed him by and told him that he was “Dominican”, and to the surprise of the congressman, the man from Quisqueyan turned to him again saying “it’s not me Alone, there are four of us Dominicans who work here now.”
Espaillat added that these are things that one finds every day, in every corner and city in the US where one goes, one finds a story of success, progress, and apart from the great challenges and difficulties that we have and face I firmly believe that we are making progress, he reiterated.
During his more than two-hour stay at the meeting, he answered numerous questions from the participants, and his face was happy, happy to take a bath in the town to say goodbye to 2022, many of those present agreed.
