Tens of houses were buried after the collapse of a hillside in the province of Pataz, in the La Libertad region, at approximately 7:30 am this Tuesday. The Regional Government reported that the magnitude of the damage after the emergency that occurred in the town of Retamas, in the district of Parcoy.

In a video recorded by a local resident, the desperate cries of residents are heard at the precise moment of the collapse. “Oh god, escape, save yourselves”!, shouts an anguished woman as she watches helplessly from the front as the earth and stones slide and bury numerous houses.
The regional governor of La Libertad, Manuel Llempen, estimated in RPP that between 60 and 80 houses were covered after the landslide. He also lamented that the affected area is 16 hours from Trujillocapital of the region, by road.
He indicated that the Ministry of Defense will also send a helicopter and that it is likely that the President of the Republic will also travel to the affected area.
“We will support the affected families”, President Pedro Castillo stated hours later on his Twitter account, specifying that the head of Indeci and the Minister of Defense will travel to the area to supervise the rescue efforts.

The National Police also reported that eight officers from the Retamas police station went to the area and verified in situ that the landslide of the hill near the city occurred at the height of the market in the town of Retamas, and that in addition to houses destroyed, it is presumed that there are numerous missing persons, so police officers are carrying out search and rescue tasks.
