The IBA reports that the former Mexican president (who governed from 1994 to 2000) is a member of The Elders, The World Health Assembly is an independent group of global leaders who use their collective experience and influence to promote peace, justice and human rights around the world. In 2020, Zedillo was asked to serve on the Independent Panel on Pandemic Preparedness and Response, mandated by the World Health Assembly to analyse the early onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, its global spread, its health, economic and social impacts and how it was controlled and mitigated.
