Erick Aguirre speaks for his son Danilo, identified by OIJ as a suspect in the attack against Joao Maldonado: "He is obliged not to make his version public"

The journalist and writer Erick Aguirre Aragón came out in defense of his son, also journalist Danilo Aguirre Sequeira, who is being accused by the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) of Costa Rica of being one of the suspects of trying to murder the Nicaraguan opponent. Joao Maldonado, and said that his descendant is “incapable of doing or contributing to harming anyone.”

Aguirre Aragón, son of the well-known journalist, now deceased, Danilo Aguirre Solís, published a note on his personal Facebook account titled “About my son, Danilo Aguirre Sequeira” to speak on behalf of his relative, who, as he points out in his text, , is not in a position to speak to clarify things at this time.

On September 27, the OIJ published a video where the Nicaraguan journalist appears Danilo Aguirre Sequeiraas one of the “suspects” of participating in the shooting attack against the opponent Joao Maldonado. When asked about this serious accusation, the indicated communicator declared himself “surprised” and promised to give his version to clarify the matter, but until now he has not come forward.

According to the father of the “suspect” it has been difficult for him to remain silent in recent days, but “given the inability of my son Danilo to make public statements for now, I feel obliged to make clear my faith in him and the absolute conviction of all my family and friends who know him, that he is not and will never be able to be part of events like the one they currently relate him to.

Aguirre Aragón, showing his fatherly love, naturally, expresses that his son Danilo “is a good, generous, hard-working man and incapable of harming or contributing to harming any person.”

The writer acknowledges that his son does indeed appear in the videos and photographs that the OIJ displayed through the media; however, he noted that his son, “except for some brief statements of surprise and confusion, has been provisionally forced to not to make public his version regarding those images.

Likewise, he indicates in his text in defense of his descendant that in part he does not give statements because the OIJ is still investigating and “until he makes his position clear to that police authority and as long as it does not clearly determine the facts, Danilo cannot make any public statement in this regard”, what the father of the accused does not clarify is whether his son has contacted the OIJ to contribute to the investigation and answer questions from the body that has under its control the investigations into the attack against Maldonado.

Complains about media

In addition to defending his son, the journalist and writer complained about the treatment and approach of the independent media to the issue of Aguirre Sequeira’s involvement by the OIJ in the criminal attack against the Nicaraguan opponent, who has suffered two assassination attempts, both in San José, Costa Rica.

“In the public or media sphere, versions have spread that, in certain cases, are based on speculation and inventions that seriously damage his dignity and his personal and professional reputation,” the father complains.

Likewise, he accuses some media outlets of “rushing to draw conclusions that not even the authorities themselves have reached; there is a limit that, when crossed, violates the professional ethics of the journalist.”

For Aguirre Aragón, the OIJ “has not made public any accusations against Danilo, nor has it officially declared him a suspect and has not provided any conclusive information about its investigations into this case.”

“However, some media outlets have irresponsibly gone ahead to spread speculation, conjectures and even fallacies of alleged “experts”, which even border on the fictional,” says the writer.

He calls some journalists opinionated and remembers his past in State Security

Erick Aguirre, in defense of his son, says that some journalists, who cite “opinionists”, criticize them because “without mentioning sources or supporting statements, they have accused Danilo of being an intelligence agent and of being a kind of criminal mastermind in this case. And the media that have reproduced these nonsense have not even bothered to try to corroborate such statements with alternative sources,” forgetting that in the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship there are no official sources to consult nor can journalism be practiced freely.

Danilo Aguirre Sequeira, suspected of participating in the attack against Joao Maldonado. The OIJ cannot yet confirm the investigation.

Furthermore, he accuses the media, without mentioning names, of “lack of rigor and professional ethics.”

“I therefore ask the media and journalists, especially those who know Danilo personally, which is almost all of them, to try to rely on information that is duly confirmed, which apparently in this case only the OIJ or Danilo are for now. possibility of providing,” asks Aguirre Aragón.

And he adds that «the statements made by “opinionators” or “experts” can only be true if they come from those two sources, the rest is just meaningless speculation; unless the “opinionator” consulted is based on information from the perpetrators of the act themselves. In such a case, the “expert” should also be the subject of police investigation,” he says.

The writer adds that it is a “speculative delirium” that some “opinionists” have remembered his past in the Sandinista General Directorate of State Security in the 80s and that because of that experience he himself has trained his son.

“It is said that I was a member of State Security in the eighties, and apparently it is assumed that I still am, and that I continue to act as such,” he points out.

In that sense, he acknowledged that he was an agent of the DGSE between 1982 and 1983, as an analyst “in what they then called the ideological area.”

He also said that for having a different opinion from the Sandinista militancy, he was sanctioned by the party and “imprisoned for a time in El Chipote”, after which he would have requested a discharge, which was granted to him until 1984, and then went to Mexico to continue studying.

At the end of his text in defense of his descendant, the writer reiterated that “neither my son Danilo, nor I, are nor will we ever be able to get involved in events that harm the humanity or physical integrity of any person. “It is something we owe to ourselves, to our family, to the memory of our father and grandfather, respectively, and of course to my mother, who survives him.”
