Episcopal Conference recommends that the OAS form political and economic working groups

Episcopal Conference asks that August 30 be exclusive for Santa Rosa de Lima

The president of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP), Monsignor Miguel Cabrejos, spoke out against the prompt arrival of the mission of the Organization of American States (), to analyze the situation of the country.

Along these lines, Cabrejos recommended that the OAS establish two groups of independent experts. In this way, he said that one of them should be in charge of seeing the political crisis and the other the economic situation.

We as a Church want to recommend to the OAS the formation of two groups of autonomous and independent experts, one political-legal to analyze and guide all the current problems with great height; and another to evaluate our economic situation and culture so diverse”, he declared in dialogue with Sol TV.

In addition, he emphasized that the investigations against the president Pedro Castillo and its environment must continue with its course. However, she said it is necessary to remember that “in the background of the crisis there are structural and legal problems”.

Likewise, Monsignor Miguel Cabrejos was of the opinion that a change in the Presidency of the Republic and in the conformation of the Congress would not solve the country’s structural and legal problems.

The issue is not vacancy or non-vacancy. I think we have to skip this problem and focus on the country’s structural, legal, juridical, cultural and economic issues.“, held.

OAS visit

The objective of this OAS commission, made up of authorities and foreign ministers from different states, is to analyze the situation in Peru, following up on the resolution of “support for the preservation of democratic institutions and representative democracy in Peru”.

The visit comes after the request of the Government of Pedro Castillo to activate the Inter-American Democratic Charter and thus, according to its articles 17 and 18, the OAS send a group to the country to monitor the state of the institutions and report to the Permanent Council so that they can then proceed to make decisions based on their needs.
