After ending this Friday, January 14, its CXXIII Plenary Ordinary Assembly, the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) sent a message to the population, in which it urged to maintain the hope of a change in Venezuela, and to reject that it is tried to say that the country Enjoy normality and you have to pass the page to recent events
Bishops and archbishops of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference held their CXXIII Plenary Ordinary Assembly in Caracas, concluding with a Pastoral exhortation in which they shared some reflections made with the intention of illuminating, from faith, “the complex social, political, economic and ethical situation that our country lives.”
The prelates are joined for the call of Pope Francis made in the bull call of the jubilee, requesting the Venezuelan State “to carry out forms of amnesty or of the sentence, and implement insertion itineraries for those deprived of liberty.” We also ask for decent conditions for all of them and, in particular, in the respect of due process and of human and constitutional rights, the liberation of those who have been arrested due to their political positions.
Among the conclusions they point out that, “given the reality that we live, it is misleading to affirm that the crisis that our country has suffered in recent times has been overcome, that the situation has been normalized.”

Likewise, the prelate indicates that Venezuelan society can move towards more promising situations using the same strategies and actions used so far, they express the Venezuelan bishops.
Venezuelan crisis
Bishops in their pastoral exhortation encourage their faithful to discover the signs of hope “in the midst of these concerns and fears” that live in the country. In this sense, they call attention to the dramatic situation of poverty in which they live, due to low economic income, the precariousness of public, educational and health services, and legal insecurity.
They also make evident that one of the greatest desires of the Venezuelan people is to recognize us as participants in the same destiny, live in peace and freedom.
«We consider that this will not be possible as long as the political crisis that our country lives today is resolved, due to the lack of detailed publication of the results and events that occurred after the elections of July 28. These facts are still present in the collective consciousness of the Venezuelan people, ”says the press release.
In the same way, they remember the migration drama lived by Venezuelans: “The expectations are that the figure of about eight million Venezuelan migrants will grow if they do not significantly change the economic, social and political conditions of the country.”
Plenary Assembly of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference
In the development of this plenary assembly, the Episcopate made the election of the members of its presidency, ratifying Monsignor Jesús González de Zárate Archbishop of Valencia. As first vice president, Monsignor José Luis Azuaje, Archbishop of Maracaibo; For the second vice presidency, Monsignor Carlos Curiel, Bishop of Carora, was elected and in the General Secretariat the Monsignor José Antonio Da Conceicao, Bishop of Puerto Cabello.
