Epidemiological Report: active cases exceed 66 thousand, an increase of 15 thousand compared to last week

The Ministry of Health (Minsal) published the 170th Epidemiological Report on Wednesday, in which they address the situation of the pandemic in the country. The report details that as of January 23, the country registered 66,764 active cases of Covid-19, 15,040 more than last week, when there were 51,724.

The Metropolitan Region recorded 27,030 contagions, an increase of 7,127 cases compared to last week. The RM is followed by the regions of Valparaíso (6,780), Antofagasta (4,846), Tarapacá (4,231) and Biobío (3,343).

Meanwhile, the regions with the fewest active cases correspond to Maule (1,974), O’Higgins (1,827), Los Lagos (1,572), Atacama (1,538), Los Ríos (1,174), Ñuble (1,040) and Aysén (489).

Likewise, the highest rates of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to confirmed and probable cases, are found in the Region of Arica and Parinacota (1,219.5), Magallanes (1,121.8) and Tarapacá (1,066.6).

At the community level, Antofagasta led the number of active cases, with 2,376. They are followed by Arica (2,286), Iquique (1,808), Santiago (1,616) and Punta Arenas (1,314).
